Future Fossils
Concrete, glass fiber, iron
2017
The sculpture “Future Fossils” is inspired by works of science fiction literature (The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut; The Doomed City by Arkady and Boris Sturgatsky; Solaris by Stanislaw Lem). It is like archaeological finding from the distant future. The fossil materials used for the sculptures (concrete, iron) encapsulate “fossil” semantics, while at the same time being quite traditional. My aim was to awaken the viewer’s imagination by looking at abstract sculptural forms, to evoke hypothetical future scenarios. In today’s context, with the frequent ideas about the possible colonisation of other planets, and the often rather pessimistic predictions about the future of humanity, I found this topic interesting and important.
